A taste of ‘Paris’

Pretty macarons

Danielle Chong makes amazing macarons. As good as the Parisien ones I’ve had. A single bite transports me back to Rue de Vaugirard on a very sunny day filled with saccharine memories. Back to the day I went hunting for Sadaharu Aoki and Pierre Herme’s macarons and desserts. But that is a story for another post on my Paris trip in July.

I am not a macaron fanatic. But I enjoy a good macaron. Because I have had two failed attempts at making macarons myself, I have a lot of respect for those who do pull it off and do so excellently. Until I muster the courage to attempt them again (and again and again because macarons need practice), I will resort to buying them from super talented bakers like Danielle.

Her recent bake sale featured 5 lovely flavours. My favourite was naturally the Cafe avec Bailey’s, given my soft-spot for the creamy liquer. Enough has been said about her macarons so I shall be no parrot and give it to you straight without any lyrical erm waxing: Danielle has a deft hand in creating crisp light shells and robust thick buttercream. In my opinion, a definite must-try.

5 Flavours to die for:
Caramel fleur de sel
Coconut passion fruit
Cafe avec Bailey’s
Cookies + Cream
Cranberry white chocolate
